Omar Flores, LMSW, CAADC
As a counselor, my role is not to tell a client what to do, but rather to help clients examine what their goals are, different ways those goals can be achieved, and to provide supportive and honest feedback through a therapeutic relationship. I have over 10 years of experience helping individuals who are trying to move beyond difficulties related to substance use, relationship troubles, trauma, and life transitions. Show up as you are - with struggles. We will focus on strengths, engage in personal discussions without fear of judgment and shame, and work towards the goal of living a healthy, sustainable, and fulfilling life.
I moved from Detroit to Grand Rapids in 1997, and have worked as a social worker for the majority of that time. I also have extensive experience as a professor in the Humanities department at Aquinas College, and in the School of Social Work at GVSU.

Omar's primary practice is not located at The Collaborative, but rather the Kentwood area (Woodland Mall area). He has strong ties to our location at the Masonic Center and our practice. While the Collaborative serves diverse mental health concerns, we do have expertise in post partum issues, maternal wellness, and women's issues. Omar is a consistent referral source for us for serving men in the postpartum phase of life, fathers, couples, and is a trusted ally for women with excellent feedback from male clients in building trusting relationship helping them to navigate these big transitions and cope. It usually looks different for men. We are also glad to help you get connected to Omar for therapy for any reason!
